The Practice and the Purpose
“Joy is an act of resistance.” —Toi Derricotte
Joy, for me, is not ornamental. In mission-driven spaces where urgency and scarcity often dominate, choosing joy is intentional. It is grounding. It creates space for clarity instead of constant reaction. Joyfully Rooting was built on that belief. Through this practice, organizations are supported in moving beyond reactive grant cycles and toward thoughtful strategy, strong systems, and storytelling that reflects who they truly are. Sustainable funding begins with alignment and purpose.
I’m Corrina Brown, founder of Joyfully Rooting and a Grants Steward with nearly a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector. Over half of that time has been dedicated to development and institutional fundraising. I’ve partnered with organizations at various stages of growth to strengthen grant strategy, refine narrative positioning, map funding opportunities, and build systems designed to sustain their work over time. I approach this work with steadiness and care.
How I Can Support
Each collaboration takes its own shape, anchored in the following focus areas:
Grant Strategy and Planning: clarifying funding priorities, mapping aligned opportunities, and building realistic grant plans that reflect your organization’s capacity.
Proposal Development and Refinement: co-drafting and strengthening proposals to ensure clarity, cohesion, and alignment between narrative, budget, and institutional priorities.
Systems and Institutional Alignment: creating internal processes, templates, and positioning strategies that support consistent, long-term institutional funding efforts.
